EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 9: "Dr Ajay and Dr Agnishekhar are the heroes of Kashmiri Pandits who have sacrificed their life for the sake of their community. It is their relentless struggle that Kashmir is still with India. Had it been people like Mattoo (and) Jitinder Bakshi, country would have gone to dogs. These have the potential of trading (everything) for their own benefit. Kashmiri Pandits are nationalist and would not go back to Kashmir (to live) at the mercy of people like (Mohd Ishaq) Khan. If a Professor can write such hate mails, what can be the level of (others)/convert Hindu workers of Mattoo like Shohab Inyat Malik; Rajinder Singh Jogi, who was thrown out by Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University; a bossom pal of Mattoo, Arif Haleem; Prof I A Hamal; Neeraj Sharma having the rank of Professor within no time; (and) Prof Dipankarsen Gupta, (who became) Professor within two years. Mattoo is a villain among (the) community and nationalist people, while Dr Ajay and Dr Agnishekhar are the true patriots" (Ramneek Kaul, April 29).
"Save Jammu from cancer cells like Mattoo…" (Kirpal Singh, April 29)
"Truth bites and very true. The truth of Mattoo and his intentions is screaming. He is an anti-national and every Indian in Jammu and Kashmir knows this. He uses his Kashmiri Pandit name to garner legitimacy…(for) furthering separatist agenda. A man who is anti-national calls himself track two and three diplomat whereas he is a failed academician and a trackless Indian who fails to see the sovereignty and integrity of India and propounds the theory of erosion and separatism. His biggest asset is his being a Pakistani agent and US of political connections to achieve whatever and people talk of his JNU work but it is a truth that many Professors worth their salt and academics in JNU allege that he is not even fit to be a Professor. A man who on the one hand was the co-author…wrote…Pakistan agenda self-rule document - hitting at the very basis of Indian unity, cannot be justified in sitting in constitutional and academic post. Is being anti-national a qualification for being called an achiever? Are academicians in the country dead that man of no caliber is being pushed to Jammu every time?" (S Soni, April 30)
"In summer of 1999, at the so-called International Peace Conference at The Hague, Holland, the biggest conference of the century involving around 10,000 international NGOs and 75,000 participants took place, with debates, seminars on all conflict zones. All passed resolutions which would become part of UN thrust papers on the conflict zones of the world. Kashmir was even planned for five days of the event. JKLF, Hurriayt, Majid Trambu, Farooq Papa, Dr Mehrajuddin, Admiral Ramdoss and many more sponsored a spate of anti-India seminars. Panun Kashmir delegation was distraught at the lack of any sizeable Indian initiative to neutralize these proceedings. JKLF sponsored seminar billed as biggest and decisive indictment of India with one of the largest spaces available at the venue. ISI and other agencies worked hard to make it successful. Panun Kashmir delegation demanded the inclusion of a Kashmiri Pandit representative in the panel; lobbied hard, and finally the organizers said they seek permission from their masters (read Pakistan) and would announce their decision before the start of seminar. Next day, the auditorium was filled to its capacity, few Indians in the crowd, which mainly consisted of Pakistanis. Noble laureate Jose Ramos Horta, now Prime Minister of Timor, was the chief guest…Somebody walked up to the Panun Kashmir delegation and said a Kashmiri Pandit would be permitted to put across his point of view. The Pandits are called at the stage and the master of ceremonies (a Jammu-based journalist) announced Prof Amitabh Mattoo as the last minute addition to the list as a concession to the demand of some Kashmiri Pandits present at the venue. Prof Amitabh Mattoo declares: 'I would like make this clear that I am not here as a representative of Kashmiri Poandits
