| Sodhi Memorial T20: Shashi shines in Simula's title win | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 10: All round performance from Shashi Kumar today helped Simula Cricket Club (SCC) lift the 2nd Ashok Sodhi Memorial Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament played at Parade Ground, here. Shashi, who earlier helped SCC raise a competitive total with his 44 runs contribution, later clinched four wickets to halt the opponent's victory march. In the final, SCC trounced Rohit Dogra Cricket Club (RDCC) by 11 runs. Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, SCC set a 140 runs target for the loss of eight wickets, which, in reply, RDCC could not chase and bowled out for 128 runs in 19.3 overs. Shashi's 44 runs came off 37 balls including four hits to the fence and one six. Bandeep Singh and Prince contributed 28 and 20 runs respectively. From RDCC, Amit Baloria was most successful bowler with three for 25 in four overs while Vijay Dogra and Amit Balgotra shared two wickets each. Later, chasing the target, RDCC bundled out at a score of 128 in 19.3 overs to lose the match by 11 runs. Though Munish Dogra and Vijay Dogra made great effort to turn the game around, yet the side could not make it a win. While Munish made 13-ball 33 runs hitting eight boundaries, Vijay contributed 17-ball 30 runs. Sahil Bhalwal added 24-ball 27 runs including three boundaries. Shashi took four wickets for 32 runs while Ram Dayal and Inderjeet clinched three each. For his all-round performance, Shashi was declared man of the match. He was also adjudged for the coveted man of the series title. The final was officiated by Rajesh Dhar and Sadiq Malik as umpires while Raghav Verma was scorer. In the final and prize distribution function, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies. He termed sports as a right medium to play tribute to a colleague. The JKCA president appreciated the initiative taken by the Print and Electronic Media Photo Journalists Association. Minister for Sports, R S Chib was guest of honour in the valedictory function. Member Legislative Assembly (MLA), Ashok Khajuria was among those prominent present.
