5/10/2010 11:25:40 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 10: The state unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed the verdict of special court in Mumbai attack case in which Ajmal Kasab, the only Pakistani terrorist being detained alive, was awarded death penalty.
Addressing a meeting of the party activists to take stock of the policies and functioning of the government especially during the past thirteen years, Chaman Lal Gupta, the leader of BJP Legislature Party raised accusing fingers about the sincerity of the Government leaders of the State in handling the menace of terrorism and questioned that it is a serious matter that there was not a single case in which any terrorist including foreigners, in this State has been awarded capital exemplary punishment although many thousand cases were registered during the past years. "The Mumbai case verdict would give a message to terrorists and its operators in Pakistan or elsewhere," Gupta added and observed, "It is an aspersion over the functioning of the law and order authorities in this troubled State that why they have failed to seek justice with the killers and indulging in massacres as also other heinous crimes against humanity." The BJP leader charged, "These ruling leaders of the National Conference, Congress as also their other allies including the PDP, had been talking more about the human rights of the ultras and separatists rather than their responsibility in enforcing law and order to a eradicate the menace of terrorism."
He pointed out that during this period over thirty thousand militancy related cases were registered. It was decided at the meeting to collect data in which the ruling leaders have failed to perform and on the contrary found involved in liaison with the ultras. The meeting decided to prepare a chart of such "wrongs" being committed to expose the functioning of the leaders of the Congress, National Conference and their allies.
