Coaching of J&K youth: Army's success formula
5/10/2010 11:28:28 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
UDHAMPUR, May 10: The Army's unique career oriented and personality development programme undertaken during the last few months has met with spectacular success.
Four boys from J&K, Master Avinash Kumar, Aditya Sharma, Ajay Kumar and Vinay Kumar, who received training at the Northern Command's Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC), have been selected at the Services Selection Board (SSB). They would be joining the respective military training academies shortly.
Building on this success and seeing the overwhelming response of the youth of J&K another such programme is underway from May 3 to 29 at the HRDC, Udhampur wherein, 12 girls and 29 boys including one girl from Leh, three girls and seven boys from Srinagar and eight girls and 21 boys from Jammu region are attending.
All candidates are bubbling with confidence while being trained by the expert Army faculty.
This coaching programme which is the brainchild of Lt Gen BS Jaswal, GOC-in-C Northern Command is aimed to develop the potential of youth from the under-privileged and remote areas of J&K, seeking a career in the defence forces as commissioned officers. The training is also intended to hone their reasoning and intellectual abilities while raising their confidence to compete in various career exams and interviews amongst the best in the country. The course has been designed by Col Anand Swaroop of HQ Northern Command along with a high caliber faculty of dedicated and experienced army instructors and psychologists. Appre-ciating the hardships and other resource constraints of the candidates, the Army is also providing free boarding and lodging facilities.
In a specially organised function at HRDC, Lt Gen Jasbir Singh, Chief of Staff, HQ Northern Command felicitated the successful candidates and addressed the candidates attending the present course. He said that no one can stop them from attaining success if they worked hard with a single-minded purpose.
If Dr Shah Faesal from Kupwara can top the Civil Services exam he saw no reason why one of them cannot top the various Defence Services exams through the SSB.
