| None ever imagined Ex VC JU so unpopular among KPS | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 10: "I am ashamed that most of the supporters of Prof Amitabh Mattoo are abusive and devoid of any concrete material to support him. It is no wonder that most of the abusive mails in support of Mattoo are nothing but written by himself only as after a drink or so he becomes emotional and starts writing mails and telephoning his subordinates and abuse them. Please check the time of mails and you will know that is 'real' Prof. Mattoo" (Kavita, April 30). "Kashmiri Pandits hosh main aao Mattoo ko door bagao" (Alka Dhar, April 30) "Appeal to all Kashmiri Pandits to SUPPORT JAMMU BANDH against any outsider as VC and in particular the anti-national, PDP loving Hindu hater as the VC. It is the truth that as the VC of Jammu University his actions were questionable. No more of him and his agenda or his cronies. We respect and share the emotions of all Jammu (people) and will fight for them. The Government should refrain from (taking) such a decision" (Rajni, Kashmiri Pandit activist, May 1). "I cannot remember a whole city doing a bandh against one man - in this case Amitabh Mattoo. It is really the revolt of suppressed… nationalism…" (Jyestharajan, May 1). "There was no political parties supporting the bandh and it was truly a people's movement" (Madhusudan, May 1). These are only a few of the several such responses the article on Prof Amitabh Mattoo's credentials evoked from people from different parts of India. These responses show the extent of the anger of those who responded and those who supported the Jammu bandh against the reported decision of the concerned authorities to appoint Prof Amitabh Mattoo as Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu. These responses were nothing but a scathing attack on Prof Amitabh Mattoo and on the political views he held on Jammu and Kashmir, India, Pakistan and separatists. The most significant aspect was the support the bandh call evoked from persons inhabiting states other than Jammu and Kashmir. Equally significant was the appeal made by several Kashmiri Pandits to the people of Jammu to make bandh a success. By extending support to the bandh call, the Kashmiri Pandits not only identified themselves with those demanding a local academician as vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Jammu, but also demonstrated their resolve to fight out even those Kashmiri Pandits, including Prof Amitabh Mattoo, who, according to them, operate on behalf of separatists and work against their own country, India. There is no need elucidate further the nature of these responses as each and every response is self-explanatory. It is for Prof Amitabh Mattoo to take note of these responses. In fact, any person with any self-respect would ponder over the reasons that make persons, including those belonging to one's own community, form such a negative opinion about that person. Prof Mattoo should ponder over the reasons all the more because none has spoken a single word in his praise. It's a pity! (Concluded)
