| Land feud comes to bloody end; two brothers, uncle murdered at Ramgarh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 10: A prolonged land feud between two families came to a bloody end today when an ex-serviceman shot dead two brothers and their maternal uncle at Samme Chak in Ramgarh, about 25 km from here, this morning. The is perhaps the first most bloody land feud between two families in J&K in the past a decade or so. The dead -- Arjun Singh, son of Santokh Singh, his brother Prahlad Singh and maternal uncle Gian Singh -- were the neighbours of their alleged killers at Samme Chak. The main accused was identified as Rajinder Singh, an ex-serviceman. His brothers -- Mohan Singh, Dilabar Singh and Mohinder Singh -- and nephew German Singh, son of Raghubir Singh, too had come in his support after hearing the gun shots, police sources said. Mohan and Dilabar are also retired army personnel. The two families developed enemity some time back over the line of demarcation between their fields. While Rajinder's family alleged that the victims had encroached upon their few inches of land, the latter rejected their claim. This generated a cold war between them. The enemity, however, became more bitter when Arjun and Santokh constructed a shed on the disputed land stretch and set up a poultry farm. Sources said Rajinder and his family wanted the borderline re-demarcated but their plea was turned down by the victims' family. Today, in a fit of anger, Rajinder came to the poultry farm with his .12 bore gun at about 8 am and allegedly fired at Arjun and Santokh, who were that time busy in doing work in the poultry farm, killing them on the spot. Sources said when their uncle Gian Singh, who was working in his field close to the poultry farm, arrived at the scene of crime hearing the gunshots, he too was fired upon by Rajinder as a result of which he sustained critical bullet wounds. He was evacuated to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, where he died later. Sources said hearing the gunshots, Rajinder's brothers -- Mohan, Dilabar and Mohinder -- and nephew German had also come in his support. Soon after the incident, a police team led by Ramgarh police station SHO, Inspector Romesh Kumar reached Samme Chak and examined the spot, besides picking up the remains of the fired cartiridges. While Rajinder and Mohan had been arrested, the others were absconding. Sources said the .12 bore gun, used in the killings, had been seized by police. While post-mortem on the bodies of Arjun and Santokh was conducted in the Ramgarh sub-district hospital, it was conducted on Gian's body in the GMC Hospital mortuary. The bodies were later handed over to their families for last rites. A murder case had been registered against the accused. Sources said a tension prevailed in the village after the killing of three members of a family. Fearing a backlash, police had been deployed at Samme Chak, the sources added.
