| Every heart in Kashmir beats for Pakistan: Kar | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 10: As if the rift between former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad and state Congress chief, Saif-ud-Din Soz was not enough cause of worry in 10 Janpath that a senior leader, Ghulam Rasool Kar added to party's woes by playing his `trump' card in Sopore convention Monday. Kar said every Kashmiri including pro-accession elements nurtured pro-Pakistan tendencies. Kar made this `epoch' making statement while addressing the convention as Soz and other leaders watched helplessly. "Every Kashmiri is emotionally attached to Pakistan whether they are in Congress or National Conference", he said. Kar urged the Congress leadership to accept this harsh reality. "Congress should have cordial relations with Pakistan. The party must strive for resolution of all disputes with Pakistan especially the dispute on Kashmir", he suggested. Stressing the need for a meaningful and result oriented dialogue with Pakistan, Kar Urging a meaningful dialogue with Pakistam, Kar said: "I am an Indian but I am pained to see Pakistan in trouble. When a Pakistani gets killed in a bomb blast, my eyes get moistened automatically. This is how every Kashmiri feels." Kar urged Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to initiate dialogue with Islamabad to usher in an era of peace and prosperity in the region. Kar's speech had an impact. It almost rendered Soz's address irrelevant. Soz talked about strengthening the coalition government, forthcoming local body elections and coordination between the Congress workers. Kar came out of hibernation last month when the rift between Congress factions led by Soz and Azad deepened. A number of party workers were seen around him. Kar is not the only person to play the separatist card. Every politician has been doing it. Mufti Syed and his daughter Mahbooba Mufti almost demolished National Conference in South Kashmir during the assembly elections. National Conference has been giving importance to Sheikh Nazir to project a separatist face of the organization. Soz'z address, political circles believe, will stand him in good stead in future. Interestingly even staunch separatists refrain from making a display of their proximity to Pakistan in public for obvious reasons. Kar's `bold' confession, therefore, has generated interest across Kashmir. But the leadership in New Delhi will definitely take it with a pinch of salt.
