| Don't impose 'jazia' on pilgrims: BJP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 11: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has resented charging of Rs 25,000 as non-refundable security from the social and religious organizations willing to set up 'langars' in the state during the ensuing Shri Amar Nath Yatra. Not only this, the BJP will also oppose tooth and nail the imposition of Rs 2300 on each truck entering Lakhanpur carrying the yatra related material or groups of pilgrims. This was declared by the BJP state president Shamsher Singh Manhas while addressing a workers meeting at Doda during the last leg of his 5-day extensive tour of different and far flung hilly areas of Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda. Manhas said that charging of such huge amounts from the 'Langar' Parties and the trucks is not less than 'jazia' and such decisions are taken whenever the Congress joins hands with any regional party to share the power in the state. He said it was during the 2008 coalition of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress also that the Jammu province had to agitate for 63 days to get restored land in favour of Shri Amar Nath Shrine Board. BJP chief also criticized the elected representatives from Doda, Bhaderwah and Kishtwar of preferring members of a particular community in matters of development and welfare related schemes. He said that many 'kandi' areas lack adequate water supply as the inhabitants there belong to some other faith. He said an elected representative should work in an impartial manner and treat all the people of his constituency equal, irrespective of their religion, caste, colour or creed.
