BJP commemorates entry of Mookeerji to state
5/11/2010 11:32:33 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 11: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature party leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, while addressing a function organized here today at BJP headquarters to commemorate the entry of Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerji in this state, stated that "the day of May 11, is of great significance". On this day the great patriot and leader of the Opposition in the Parliament, Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerji, had entered J&K by defying the big barrier of Permit System for entry of any Indian in this part of the country.
This day signifies the great struggle waged by the nationalists to break the barriers between this state and rest of the country.
Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, while paying rich tributes to Dr Mookerji, Prem Nath Dogra and large number of their followers, who had struggled hard to demolish many walls created by the leadership of the National Conference (NC) supported by the Congress. He said that though many obstacles have been removed but still there are several which remain to be demolished.
Prof Gupta, while listing the events, recalled that how hard was the struggle that even to hoist the national flag, the students had to observe hunger strike for 38 days in 1952. He also pointed out that J&K had legally and constitutionally acceded to Indian Union but under communal considerations many hurdles were created to insulate this state from rest of the country. These had imperiled not only the unity and integrity of the country but also are badly affecting the rights of the people and the developmental activities in the state.
Former state president and Jammu East MLA Ashok Khajuria, in his address, said that the present situation in the state is dangerous as the government is soft towards the separatists and the anti-national elements. He said it is the BJP only which as all along stood like a rock against the anti-national forces and even sacrificed many of its leaders to ensure full integration of the state with the rest of the country. He said the people are facing hardships due to price-rise, unemployment, insecurity but the leaders of political parties like NC and the PDP have least concern towards their problems. Both these parties have been misleading the people on the slogans of self-rule, autonomy and pre-1953 position, while the Congress do not have courage to utter even a singleword of opposition because of its single point agenda to enjoy the loaves of power at any cost.
