| Fake sub-RTO office raided; 'RTO' absconds, his deputy held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 11: A fake sub-office of regional transport officer (RTO), Jammu, was today raided by police at Talab Tillo here and several bogus registration certificates (RCs), licences, stamps of RTO, one ARTO and other officials were seized. While the fake RTO and kinpin was absconding, his deputy was arrested, police sources said. Police came to know about the fake RTO office operational at Talab Tillo on the disclosure of Anil Sharma, who was arrested last week from outside the RTO office at Nehru market with fake stamps, RCs and licences. Police sources said a police party led by the Nehru Market police post incharge, sub-inspector (SI) Hilal Azhar raided the fake sub-RTO office at Talab Tillo and arrested an accused, who was identified as Gurdeep Singh alias Rimple. The main accused -- Surjit Singh alias Tassa, however, managed to escape. He originally hails from Ludhiana in Punjab and was putting up at Talab Tillo for the past two years. Surjit, who posed himself as a RTO, had also managed to get a fake permanent resident certificate (PRC) from the Jammu tehsil office, the sources added. From the raided premises, police recovered 23 fake stamps, including that of RTO and clerks, over 100 blank RCs, hundreds of fake permits and one stamp of ARTO, Sopore. The accused sold fake driving licenses, root permits and RCs to the needy at exhorbitant rates. As Surjit was said to have fled to Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, a police team was being despatched there to apprehend him.
