| NSUI concerned over 'faulty' JU examination system | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 12: National Students Union of India (NSUI) has expressed serious concerns over defective examination system of Jammu University (JU). In a press statement issued here today, state general secretary of the union, Arjun Singh Pathania has listed a number of defects in the examination system. He said," Students are usually issued mark-sheets after a day or two of declaration of results, but an Assistant Registrar of PG examination wing has not signed mark sheets even after ten days of declaration of results. Pathania pointed out under such circumstances when would the mark sheets reach departments and be posted to students, who are pursuing studies through distance education mode? How students are supposed to fill examination form of next semester within fifteen days of result of declaration? He alleged that professors deliberately fail students to get themselves engaged in re-evaluation of papers just for the lure of earning more money. This might be the possible reason for failing a large number of students who get pass after re-evaluation. Pattern of examination is not up to the mark and try to provide benefits only to book-worms and crammers, the statement maintained adding that it never tries to explore real intellect and knowledge potential of students. He said that on several occasions out of syllabus papers are being set there by putting the careers of students at stake He even added that university has not provided re-checking provision as yet and university syllabus completely lack any examination policy and expectations from students which are even present in 8th standard examinations of JKBOSE. He added that Examination wing has also examinations for some of the classes have been conducted without announcing re-evaluation results. He has appealed to university authorities to rectify their examination system. He also demanded that students should not be charged re-evaluation fees if their marks are increased by 5 percent or some other minimum basis.
