| Intl saffron mandi at Pampore soon: Soz | | Govt to curb land mafia: Bhalla | | Early Times REport SRINAGAR, May 13: President J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and Member Parliament, Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz said that the Central Government is very keen for the speedy development and prosperity of the State. Soz was speaking at a public meeting at Pampore today. He stressed for strengthening the coalition government especially Congress party. He said that Congress is a secular party which worked for the freedom of the country and strengthening its secular and democratic credentials.Soz announced that a saffron mandi of international standard would be established at Pampore to boost saffron cultivation and trade. In addition, the Union Ministry of Culture would work for the preservation and propagation of the works of Wahab Khar, Habba Khatoon and Lalaishewari well known poets and saints of the area. Minister for Medical Education, Youth Sports and Service, R. S. Chib while speaking on the occasion, said that the Government is committed to accord priority to the youth related programmes. The Minister thanked the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh for sanctioning special programme for the youth of the State under which 8,000 youths will be selected as volunteers to work at pilgrim, tourist and other places of public importance including clearance of Dal Lake and Traffic duties. He said that these volunteers will be paid honorarium of Rs. 2500 per month, adding that they would be selected from all districts of the State and sent outside the State to undergo vocational training. The Minister said that the government is keen to expand sports activities at block and village levels. He announced 15 cricket kits for the area and said that more play fields would be developed in the area. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla also called for strengthening the coalition government and propagating the welfare policies of the government. Highlighting the importance of settlement of land records, the Minister said that it would help in curbing the land mafia and protecting government land from encroachment. He said that in order to make settlement process of revenue records more effective and transparent , a high level committee will be constituted which would visited all areas and redress the grievances of the people. Vice-Chairman Gujjar and Bakerwal Advisory Board, Bashir Ahmad Naz also spoke on the occasion. The locals of the area presented a charter of demands which include opening of Degree College at Pampore, marketing facilities for sale of saffron, adequate supply of power from gas turbine, engagement of local youths in local industries, computer centre, library and a museum in the name of Lalaishewari to preserve her literary work and construction of roads at Babseer and Bajnadi.
