| Cross border terror and dialogue would not work together: Gupta | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 13: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has cautioned the Union government leaders to understand the psyche of "religious fundamentalism", more so, working behind cross border terror in Jammu and Kashmir before making any "loose observations" about dialogue with Pakistan. Taking strong exception to the statement of the Union Defence Minister, A K Antony, the former Union Minister and the Leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Chaman Lal Gupta said, "It was disappointing that the Minister for Defence deviating from their earlier stand, especially after the Mumbai terror attack that before any dialogue, Pakistan would have to take action against the mentors of terrorism." The BJP leader said, "Now it is being stated that despite existence of over forty terrorist training camps in Pakistan/Pak-occupied Kashmir but still India would go for a dialogue with Pakistan. Such statements not only weaken the Indian position but also create, confusion, well indicating that Government of India has reconciled to what happened and is ready to give up what was earlier agreed to that no Pakistani soil would be allowed for cross border." He recalled that in 2004 during NDA rule in wake of diplomatic efforts the then Pak-President, Gen. Musharraf had pubically made this promise but it was strange that now the New Delhi leaders are ready to give up what was achieved during the Vajpayee tenure. He said that cross border terror and dialogue would not work together especially in Jammu and Kashmir where lot of confusion have been created by the leadership of the Congress and its allies like the National Conference, PDP and even in the ranks of the secessionists. Gupta said. "Loose talks at the Central level would encourage only the separatists and semi-secessionists operating through the Hurriyat Conference as also the National Conference, PDP and others." In this connection, he particularly referred to the recent statement of National Conference leader Dr. Farooq Abdullah claiming that "Kashmir solution is round the corner" and said that leaders of the National Conference as also their fellow travelers who could not get anything by raising slogans of Plebiscite and that of Autonomy, are now pinning their hopes on Pakistan.
