| Cross-LoC trade again trembling | | GoI charging VAT, traders unable to recover it from PoK | | Early Times Report Rajouri, May 13: Governmnet of India is charging Value Added Tax to the Cross-Line of Control traders of Poonch however they are unable to recover the same from the traders of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir resulting in great loss to the Poonch traders who are dis-satified with the trade and are not interested any more carry on the trade. Sources said that Governmnet of India is charging VAT on all items being exported to PoK via Poonch Rawalkote Road however traders are facing an acute problem to recover the same from PoK traders which has suffered a great loss to the Poonch traders. Sources said that all the traders are trading in loss and they have been fed up with the system. "We are fed up with this system as there is no systematic trade on Poonch-Rawalkote road", Sheeraz Khan, Spokesman of Cross-LoC traders told Early Times. He said that they are paying VAT but are unable to recover it from PoK traders. He said that there are provisions in the VAT Act to withdraw the tax in these cases but they are still being charged VAT. "We requested former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to make efforts in this regard and pressurize government to cancel charging VAT on Cross-LoC trade items in the better interest of Cross-LoC trade but still nothing has been changed", he added. Traders are also not happy on the facilities being provided at Cross LOC Trade Centre Rangar. Expressing anguish over non-availability of scanning machine in the Rangar Trade Centre Poonch, LOC traders said that it is surprising on part of government that no such machine has been installed in the Centre operating International trade. They said that due to the lack of this machine, their packing is being removed by the security agencies and they are suffering a loss of Rs lakhs per trip due to spoiling of items especially fruits items. "There must be a machine to check all this and manual checking is time consuming and they are suffering big loss in it", Sheeraz Khan said. Feeling that government is playing joke with them, traders that non implementation of Standing Operation Procedure (SoP) is clear example that government is no more interested in the trade. They said that various items in SoP have been restricted and instead enhancing it from 21, they have restricted them to 5. Moong Dal which was earlier banned by Pakistan and resumed sending it after 5 months have again stopped exporting the same to Poonch which has also annoyed traders. Moong Dal, Ginger, Garlic were the main items of the trade and these items have been banned either by Government of India or Government of Pakistan. Traders said that there is no restriction of the number of trucks to be sent to Rawalkote however district administration Poonch is not allowing trucks exceeding 25 from Rangar which is a big problem of the traders.
