| Easy access inside temple at the cost of security | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 13: Ever since the militancy broke out in the state, majority of famous temples and shrines in Jammu city are well fortified and security forces are deployed in adequate numbers to look after the security needs. But mere deployment of security forces do not serve any purpose as long as they are not performing their prime task of frisking visitors and maintaining a tight vigil on the movement of suspected persons to prevent any mishap. A glaring example of lax approach being adopted by the jawans on duty at a famous temple near banks of river Tawi, near Bahu Fort came to light when this correspondent visited the temple premises for an on the spot assessment of the over all security arrangements made to prevent any militant attack. On reaching near the main gate of the famous temple this correspondent saw three security personnel relaxing on their chairs and not even a single jawan or any other security personnel was posted on the main entrance to frisk the visitors unlike all other places where every visitor inside the temple is properly searched and frisked before gaining entry. This was the first laxity. On moving inside the temple the correspondent detected that not even a single jawan was present to maintain a strict vigil on the large number of visitors. This is glaring and serious because of the fact that majority of visitors reaching this temple are pilgrims and looking after their security needs should have formed part of the brief of security personnel deployed for security duty. On top of it there was no mechanism in place where by the visitors are screened or CCTV cameras have been fixed to keep a hawk's eye on the movement of miscreants and suspected persons. The security persons can claim to have done the area domination in the area and claim that a security camp has been established near the temple premises but at the same time keeping a check on the movement of individual visitor is equally important to prevent any untoward incident.
