| JSM extends support to agitating JU students | | |

JAMMU, May 14: Jammu State Morcha (JSM) has extended its complete support to the student community of Jammu University (JU) and strongly condemned the establishment of a police post inside the varsity campus.
In a meeting of the office bearers of JSM held here today under the chairmanship of its President Prof Virender Gupta, the members urged Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Varun Sahni to remove the police post immediately.
The members alleged that this act of VC shows his complete incompetence and lack of understanding of the situation created in the University by his predecessor Amitabh Mattoo, under whom Jammu University instead of remaining a centre of learning has been converted into a den of intrigues; a centre of political activities and marriage ceremonies.
No University; anywhere in the world has any such police post within its campus & Jammu University has the dubious distinction of achieving the first place in this, they said
It is most surprising that even under graver circumstances no police post is permitted to be established within University premises anywhere in the world; but the present VC of Jammu University has very surprisingly given permission for the establishment of such a post within the university campus.
Is all this being done under a conspiracy by giving wrong advice to the VC and ensure that Jammu University is brought down in the comparative rankings amongst all the universities in India?
JSM leaders were of the opinion that all this is being done with due deliberations to create an unnecessary fear psychosis and unrest amongst the student community to scuttle their academic efforts.
Keeping in view the sensitivity of the matter JSM appealed to Governor N N Vohra, the Chancellor of Jammu University, to immediately intervene and issue instructions to get this police post removed from within the campus and restore its credibility as a centre of learning.
However, JSM also warned that if such a decision is not forthcoming then it will have no alternative but to join the students on the streets in protest.
For the resultant deterioration in law & order no one but the University authorities would be responsible, JSM office bearers maintained
