| All Railway projects to be ready by 2017: Budhalakoti | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 14: Soon the exterior of the Jammu railway station will undergo major overhauling and face lift to suit and reflect more modern and corporate look to welcome hundreds of thousands passengers. General Manager of Northern Railways Shailendra Kumar Budhalakoti, who arrived here on an inspection visit here, said that in the coming months the railway authorities would start renovation work of the exterior portion of the Jammu railway station to present more modern and corporate look. On the occasion he announced construction of an additional waiting hall to be built at a cost of Rs 80 lakh to accommodate more waiting passengers on the platform.Shailendra Kumar, on reaching Jammu railway station inspected the railway station premises along with senior officers and later took review meeting of ongoing projects. Interacting with media persons GM Northern Railways also passed strict instructions to the railway authorities to check rampant misuse of parking space by the certain vested interests who do not allow visitors to drop their passengers at the railway station without charging hefty parking fee. Kumar, taking note of the large number of complaints lodged from time to time by the visitors and local residents directed the concerned authorities to evolve a mechanism allowing visitors to drop their passengers inside the railway station without having to pay the parking fee. Reviewing the progress of the ongoing railway construction work of the proposed rail link to Katra and between Katra and Qazi Kund Shailendra Kumar said by 2017 all the projects would be completed and the much awaited railway link to the Katra would be thrown open for railway traffic by December 2011. Appreciating the role of the construction workers and project executing agencies engaged in the task of constructing railway line in hostile terrain Kumar said despite facing all odds the Indian railways is committed to complete all its projects linking the Kashmir valley through railway line by 2017.
