| BSNL launches Prepaid Broadband Service | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 14: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) launched its Prepaid Broadband service here today. Member of Parliament (MP), Madan Lal Sharma launched the service.
This Prepaid Broadband will enable the customer to access Internet from anywhere in the country from Broadband modem of BSNL. Initially, prepaid broadband customers will be given an account with user name and password. 50MB free download with a 15-day validity period is also given to access the internet and recharge the account. The customer can recharge his account online from the BSNL portal the website http://data.bsnl.in after purchasing the voucher either through BSNL CSC or other retail outlets. Recharge vouchers are available in different denominations like Rs 50, Rs 250, Rs 750, Rs 1600 and Top up in Rs 100 and Rs 200 etc. "There are no fixed monthly charges for prepaid broadband service. Postpaid customers can also subscribe to the service by changing the plan from postpaid to prepaid. The service offers limited download/upload through vouchers with access at speeds 2MBps in the validity period.
"The other advantages of prepaid service are subscribers will have control on usage and will not have to exceed download limit. Corporate and enterprises can control expenditure on broadband usage of employees by subscribing to the service.
With the prepaid account customers can access internet through any Broadband connection and it will be charged to their account. "As in case of mobile connectivity, where 80 percent of subscribers are prepaid, we are confident of increasing the broadband subscriber base with this new service in view of its advantages such as affordability and flexibility." "We have an installed capacity of 63,094 lines, and 28900 Broadband connections are working. More capacity is being added to enable even rural subscribers to have Broadband internet access. Lot of value added services like the Games on Demand, Entertainment Portal and Web Conferencing facility, IPTV are being offered by BSNL at a very reasonable rates. In case of problem the customer can contact nearest BSNL customer service center or on 1504 or call toll free number 1800-424-1601. Initially BSNL will offer discount on installation charges for the period of one month for all new prepaid Broadband connections.
