| IDRB becomes law in J&K | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 16: The inter-district recruitment bill (IDRB), reserving eight percent of government jobs for the Scheduled Castes, bec-ame a law in Jammu and Ka-shmir as the state governor N N Vohra gave the legislation his formal assent. "The Governor has accepted the bill in the same form in which it was presented to him and he did not make any amendments. Nor has any recommendation been made about amending it", Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mini-ster AM Sagar said yesterday. The bill, which bans inter-district recruitment and provides a quota for Sche-duled Castes in government jobs in all districts in Jammu and Kashmir, was passed by voice vote amid uproarious scenes in the state legislative assembly on April 9. Sagar said the act would be applicable after the rules are framed by the law department. The bill faced resistance in the valley with opposition PDP and Hurriyat Conference terming it "against the interest of people of Kashmir", demanding total ban on inter-district recruitments.
