| New strategy to deal with stone pelters | | | Early times report
JAMMU, May 16: The stone pelters-turned-SPOs have been tasked to deal with their former partners in the crime in Kashmir areas. It was a new strategy to combat stone pelting menace triggered by separatist-backed misguided youth, police sources said.
Apart from recruiting them as SPOs, 'Bharat Darshan' tours were being organised for them to acquaint them with the progressive outside world.
A massive exercise was undertaken at the police station level to identify the youths who were engaged in stone- pelting at the drop of a hat or on a call by the separatists.
These youth appeared on the street openings and then fled after pelting stones on police and security forces. This menace has become a big problem in Srinagar and its surrounding areas. Sources said the new police strategy would help in dealing with the problem to a large extent.
