| Sharif to ask Bhutto on her 'talks' with Mush regime | | | Islamabad, Oct 16 Ahead of his meeting with Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chief Benazir Bhutto on Thursday, former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif has said that he would ask her about media reports alleging that she was talking to the Musharraf government.
Sharif, who heads Pakistan Muslim League (N), and Bhutto are scheduled to meet in London on October 19 to decide how to implement the charter of democracy they signed on May 14. Elections are expected to be held in Pakistan next year.
"It will not be wise to make decisions on media reports," Mr Sharif was quoted by Pakistani daily 'Dawn' as having told reporters yesterday.
On the reports that Bhutto was talking to the Musharraf regime ahead of the polls, Sharif, who is in London, said he would be meeting the PPP chief and "I am sure she will dispel these rumours".
The charter commits PPP and PML (N) to restoring democracy in military-ruled Pakistan and strengthening the parliamentary system.
They vowed to return home to take part in the campaign for 2007 elections and rejected speculation about a possible 'deal' with President Pervez Musharraf.
Sharif said he did not believe Bhutto would enter a deal with the government after signing the charter of democracy.
He also dispelled the impression that the alliance forged to 'defeat the military regime' in Pakistan had run into trouble over Bhutto's reported contacts with Musharraf. |
