| Awareness Generation Programme for women concludes | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu October 16 The five day long Awareness Generation Programme organized by Priya Darshini an NGO for women at Village Langar, Kaluchak was concluded today. Representatives from Directorate of Health Services and State Handicrafts were also attended the programme thereby giving vital information to the rural women regarding the various schemes run by the departments for their welfare. During the five day programme commenced on October 12 different topics and themes with special focus on women were discussed namely Effects of Female Foeticide, Medical termination of pregnancy Act, Pre-Natal Diagnostic Technic Act, Health and Nutrition of Girl Child, Education/Training of the Girl Child, Law and Rights of the girl child, girl child and labour, contribution of women in economy which has not received global recognition, Socio-Religious cultural influences affecting the status of the girl child, Fear of sexual abuse of the girl child, constructive role of media in creating a positive image of the girl child and the need of attitudinal changes and the role of male members of the family and community towards the girl child. Representatives from the concerned departments threw light on the above said isues and also had an thorough interaction with the women to answer their queries who attended the programme. Not only that, the organization also imparted training to the women for preparing soft toys helping them to earn their livelihood and also to make them self dependent. The members of the organization who helped in the successful conduct of the programme were C.L. Koul, Simi Koul, Yogesh Dhar, Rajni, Shalini Jamwal and Neeru. Santosh, Pooja, Sushma, Pushpa and Neelam (self help group members) also contributed their bit. Surjit Singh representative from BDO also present today.
