5/19/2010 10:41:37 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 19: The Swami Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) is doing yeomen service in conducting the annual Yatra of Shri Amarnath ever service its formation and the decisions taken by the board are without any bias said, chairman, and India association of tour operators (IATO) Anil Gour at press conference here today. He in the conference appealed to the leaders of some political parties who are trying to create turmoil in the state, which will result in a great setback to the tourist industry of J&K state. He appealed these parties not to raise un-necessary passions and do not mislead the common masses. He further said of some incident take place state will loss tourist season beside it will be loss of Rs. 500 cr to the tourism and hospitality industry of the state. Reforming to entry tax, Gour said, J&K government is not the only government, which imposes tax, on vehicles to supplement stat revenue even the neighboring states Himachal and Punjab too are charging tax and as such is no Jazia as claimed by these political parties. He said conduct of Yatra should be left to the SASB and supports its policies so to make it more effective rather finding fault un-necessary. As such IATO requests all political parties to refrain form spreading false information and trying to create any sort of upheaval during the coming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. Last year nearly 5 lakh pilgrim undertook the Yatra and considering a meager amount of only Rs. 10000.00 per person spent by each individual there was an income to the tune of Rs. 500 cores to the entire Tourism and Hospitality sector right from the poor Pony and Pithu people to the Hotel and restaurants; Houseboats and Shikara owners; Bus and Taxi operators to Travel and Tour operators of the state. This economic boost has a trickle down effect to the poorest of the poor and gives them hope to live when all the successive Govt.’s have failed to provide adequate avenues. J&K is a tourist state and a major portion of its population depends upon tourism to survive. We appeal to all these leaders to rise above their petty politics and one unman-ship and show the required statesmanship to bring this state to an event keel so that tourism survives. The Press conference was also attended by R.S.Kotwal, Sunil Koul vice president and Bharat Bhushan Kotwal, Jitender Koul etc.
