| Student Martyrs remembered on 40th anniversary | | Campus Clatter | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER

The student martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Jammu students in 1966, today remembered by thousands of school and college students on their 40th death anniversary. The occasion was marked with several programmes held by different student organizations at “Shahidi Sthal”.
The students garlanded the “Shahidi Sthal” and paid rich tributes to the martyrs namely Shahid Gurcharan Singh, Shahid Brijmohan, Shahid Gulshan Handa and Shahid Subhash Chand. On the occasion, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Jammu Mahanagar organised a motorcycle rally, which started started from parade and passed through various educational institutions. Suresh Magotra, National Executive Member ABVP, led the rally, which culminated in front of “Shahidi Sthal” in front of Science College. The students’ activists who were about 200 in number also shouted slogans of “Amar Shaheed Amar Rahe”.
Addressing the gathering of ABVP activists, Magotra said that student community has always sacrificed for the cause of Nation and we salute the student martyrs of Science College whose sacrifice resulted in the formation of separate Universities and Colleges in Jammu. He called upon the student community to rise on the occasion and oppose the policies of Kashmiri Rulers.
Jammu Joint Students Federation (JJSF) also organised a programme at Science College, in which floral tributes were paid to the martyrs. Pushvinder Singh, President JJSF while speaking on the occasion, highlighted the sacrifice made by the student martyrs in 1966 in support of the demands of Jammu students for a University, medical and engineering colleges and gazetted status to the agricultural graduates. He also urged upon the students to show active interest in the social issues of nation and state in general.
