| Irshad's death in Delhi exploited by separatists | | editorial | |
The death under mysterious circumstances of a Kashmiri youth, Irshad Ahmed Lone of Channa Pura, Srinagar, an engineering graduate, in Delhi, where he had gone in search for a job, is highly tragic indeed. It was natural for the tragedy to cause a pall of gloom among his parents, relatives and even in the circle known to him. The death of a brilliant youth in the country's capital is a sad reflection on the law and order scenario in the country. However terming this tragedy as a cold blooded murder and alleging the same to be the handiwork of the Delhi police, by torturing him under custody, without any evidence to the effect is far fetched and totally unjustified. And even if, for the argument sake, the allegations leveled by the Kashmiri separatist leaders that Irshad Lone was detained by the Delhi police and then tortured to death is accepted, the inference drawn that the Kashmiris in other parts of the country are not safe and they are subjected to torture, humiliation and killing for the sole reason of their being Kashmiris is totally unacceptable and illogical suggestion. The secessionist in Kashmir are always out to find some alibi or excuse to let loose anti India tirade. Weather It is the coming into light of a sex scandal, involving Kashmiri woman notwithstanding the fact that the exploiters who plunder the honour of these women are themselves Kashmiris, or even a natural calamity that befalls Kashmir valley or even if an epidemic breaks out, it are the Indian authorities and the security forces which are at the receiving end at the hands of separatists. The Delhi police who has been investigating the death of Irshad lone, under mysterious circumstances, have found no evidence and no record of the victim youth having been arrested by the police on any charge, not to speak of any torture. In fact law and order situation in the country's capital is at such a low ebb that the people belonging to various parts of the country and even the inhabitants of Delhi itself do not feel quite safe. Invariably there are reports of some murder in some locality of Delhi, kidnapping and committing of rape on a woman, including some foreigners. The victims belong to all parts of the country, weather they are Biharis, Upites, Bengalis, Punjabis or from Southern states. Similarly many innocents belonging to any part of the country, on occasions fall prey to the highhandedness of the police. Politicizing the tragic death of a Kashmiri youth and using the same to bolster anti India tirade and create scare among the Kashmiris against visiting other parts of the countries either in search of jobs, for business or for sight scene etc is totally uncalled far. A quite large number of Kashmiri Muslim have been living, working or visiting Delhi as well as other parts of the country without being touched by anybody. They find themselves perfectly save in any part of the country. The boot is rather in the other leg. Taking undue advantage of the warm hospitality, liberal attitude of the people in the country even some Kashmiri terrorists find safe heaven in Delhi and other parts of the country and they have also succeeded in indulging in acts of sabotage and subversion taking advantage of the liberty enjoyed by them and the people around about them least suspecting their motives and bonafides. The leaders of various secessionist outfits freely have sojourn to Delhi as well as other parts of the country, where they enjoy so much the liberty, even to propagate their secessionist views and anti India campaign.
