BJYM opposes security fee for langars
5/27/2010 11:29:14 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 27: Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM) has warned the state government not to mess with Amarnath Yatra by imposing a non-refundable security deposit of Rs 25,000 on the organizers of langars. Addressing media persons here today state BJYM president Munish Sharma said that it is the only instance in the whole country where the people who provide services to the yatris free of cost to make yatra possible are burdened with a fee.
The government has forgotten that taxes, license fee and other charges are levied only on such activities which generate profits and not on free social services.
He said that instead of providing proper facilities for the smooth and comfortable yatra for pilgrims, the state government has imposed the "jazia" type tax on Shri Amarnath Yatra.
Munish Sharma further said that by such a "mughalia farman", government has given a severe blow to the religious sentiments of Hindu community. He also said that youth of Jammu cannot and will not leave any stone unturned to get this unreasonable security fee withdrawn.
Sharma also warned that BJYM will do any thing and will go to any extent for the withdrawal of this order.
Whereas, BJYM president has welcomed all those organizations who have raised their voice against the government's indirect tax over the langar organizers, on the appeal of BJYM.
Munish Sharma has also expressed his grave concern over the state government's proposal to appoint stone pelters as Special Police Officers (SPOs) in Jammu and Kashmir Police; he said that by giving such a proposal government has betrayed its sympathies for anti-national elements.
He said that government jobs should be given on the educational criteria and to those who are victims of militancy and not to anti-national elements. Giving jobs to such elements will only encourage anti-nationals and make their activities look beneficial for other innocent youth and tempt them to indulge in anti-national activities.
