| SC/ST, OBC confederation celebrate 'Buddha Purnima' | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 27: To commemorate the 2564the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha a general function was organized by the women wing of all confederation of SC/ST and OBC organisation at K.L.Sehgal have her today, attended by large member of people, who paid their obeisance to Lord Buddha. Greeting people on the occasion R.K.Kalsotra, the president of the State unit of confederation said that Buddhism, preached by the Lord always encouraged man to face the facts of life without depending upon imaginary concepts, and his teachings give practical advice on how to work properly without wasting valuable time, effort, and to act wisely for the progress of mankind. He further said that man should fulfill his duty towards, his family, community and Country and the whole world and therefore, Buddhists should not ignore there obligation to make this world more happy and peaceful by contributing their share within their capacity. Kalsotra said that it proves that Buddhism is a religion of 'Humanism' that teaches people to work for ameliorating the lot of those who are deprived and rendered helpless and confederation was committed to give a practical shape to all the teachings of Lord Buddha by fighting tooth and nail to stop the dilution of the Scheduled tribe status and for implementation of the Mandal commission report in the state. He said that it was imperative that the government conducts a caste based census to identify the population of downtrodden to qualify their share in growth and prosperity and in case the same is not done, the confederation will launch a massive struggle. Krishan Thapa leader of the women wing of the confederation who conducted the stage said that Lord Buddha, was born, enlightened and attained Nirvana after 80 years on the same day, was the first to take initiative for emancipation of the downtrodden and the marginalized sections by preaching an entirely new faith that did not differentiate among the people on the basis of birth or gender. While Miss. Anu Kiran said that Lord Buddha was born at a critical period when the entire country was plagued with cruelty, degeneration and unrighteousness his mission was only to reform the people and disseminate the message of equality, unity and cosmic life.
