| Seven injured as militants target hospital in Kashmir | | | Tuesday, October 17, 2006 15:50 IST SRINAGAR: Seven people were injured, including three paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and four civilians, when separatist guerrillas lobbed a hand grenade on Tuesday inside a sub-divisional hospital at Baramulla, about 54 kms from Srinagar.
The explosion led to panic in the hospital where a large number of patients were waiting. Some windowpanes of the building were also broken in the impact.
"We have surrounded the hospital building. The militants targeted a posse of BSF troopers who were inside the premises," said a police officer.
In another incident, militants killed a driver of Kashmir zone inspector general of police (IGP) at Batmallo, near the fire services headquarters in the heart of Srinagar, from a point blank range.
"The driver identified as Baldev Singh was taken to SMHS hospital here where he succumbed to his bullet wounds," said a senior police officer.
He said Singh had parked the official bullet-proof car of the IGP in front of an automobile shop for repairs.
Police and paramilitary troops immediately surrounded the area and conducted a search operation.
