Factionalism 'mars'sonias Srinagar visit
5/28/2010 12:25:41 AM

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 27: Loyalists of former CM Ghulam Nabi Azad are a disappointed and distraught a lot. The reason party president Sonia Gandhi who was earlier scheduled to visit Srinagar to attend a couple of functions may now confine her day long to Jammu alone. Thanks to factionalism in J&K which has apparently not materialized her Srinagar visit.
Sources said loyalists of Azad camp who were quite active for the last few day in managing and giving final shape to the programmes at Srinagar are in dilemma and uncertainty has hovering over Sonia's visit the Srinagar.
They have got indications that party president might not now extend her visit to the summer capital of the state.
Sources attribute this to two warring sections of congress which are daggers drawn and always on a look out for an opportunity to fail each other in organizing political show.
Sonia was scheduled to lay foundation stone for an upcoming colony near Bemina for rehabilitation of Dal Lake dewellers, besides inauguration of a fashion shopping complex Sangarmal in Srinagar. Since both the functions are related to ministry of housing & urban development which fall under Dy. CM Tara Chand, he and his collegus besides some other leaders were instrumental in inviting Sonia Gandhi and ensuring her presence in their two shows. All these leaders it is pertinent to mention that are closed to Azad camp.
Given the kind of war of nerves prevailing in the two groups led by Azad and J&K PCC chief Prof. Saif-ud-din Soz postponement of Sonia's visit to Srinagar for now quite inevitable, source said. Adding that Azad group which is led locally by deputy CM Tara Chand made huge publicity of two programmes a head of Sonia's visit only to be scuttled by rival group ie. Loyalties of Soz camp.
