| You disappoint me, Fernandes tells PM | | | Tuesday, October 17 NEW DELHI: George Fernandes has taken exception to the Prime Minister’s “snipe” at him and said the PM has “belied” his expectations.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Fernandes clarified that he did not make any “derogatory” remarks against President APJ Abdul Kalam, nor did he “drag” the President into the Barak missile controversy.
“It was the CBI itself in its press release dated October 10, 2006, which had dragged Dr Kalam into the controversy,” the former defence minister said in his letter to the Prime Minister, released to the media on Monday.
Promising that he will not be cowed down by the allegations of receiving kickbacks, Fernandes is planning to launch a “nation-wide” campaign from Dehra Doon on October 29 to “nail the lies of Congress” and to expose the “misrule” and “corruption” of the UPA government.
Taking exception to Singh’s remarks about him, the NDA convenor said: “In a snipe against me, you, while interacting with the media on board your aircraft yesterday (Saturday), have been reported to have said that ‘I have no other expectation from him (George Fernandes)’.”
“Your reported remark has amused me no end. I did expect you to act independently, courageously and unearth the truth out of the lies spoken by your party’s president (Sonia Gandhi). May I say that you have belied my expectations?”
