| India condemns Lahore terror attack | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, May 28: India has strongly condemned today's twin-terrorist attacks in Lahore that have claimed at least 60 lives. The Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement in New Delhi after Lahore incidents. The Ministry said in its statement "Government strongly condemns the terrorist attacks in Lahore that have claimed the lives of scores of innocent people and injured many more. Our condolences go out to the families of those killed by these acts of terrorism."The statement has been issued in the wake of two mosques belonging to minority Ahmadi sect being besieged by armed desperadoes in a coordinated attack. The terrorists shot those gathered for Friday prayers indiscriminately and took worshippers hostage when Lahore police moved in to clear the mosques of terrorists. Ahamdi sect is a splinter Muslim group whose spiritual head is Agha Khan. During the rule of the late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, this sect was declared to be a minority in Pakistan. India issued a statement soon after the incident despite a suspected Naxalite attack back home. A rail track was blown up leading to derailment of a train in West Bengal that resulted in the killing of over 70 people. India's Home Minister P Chidambaram is expected to visit Rawalpindi next month to attend a conference of interior ministers of SAARC countries being hosted by Pakistan. Today's incidents in Lahore have also heightened security concerns for dignitaries visiting Pakistan. India has been quick to condemn the attacks in accordance with its stand against terrorism in all its forms and irrespective of the place where terrorist violence takes place.
