Jammu all set to welcome Sonia Gandhi

JAMMU: With all preparations in place for the vital functions she has to attend, Jammu, the winter capital of the state The Jammu and is all set to welcome the United Progressive Alliance Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi tomorrow.
Even as the party is divided in groups, both the factions of Congress party led by Union Health Minster Ghulam Nabi Azad and Pradesh Congress Committee President were busy in finalizing the arrangements for the visit till late hours today.
Observers feel that it is a great achievement for Jammu based Congress leaders, as Sonia Gandhi has agreed to keep her date with Jammu despite the fact that she has postponed her visit to summer capital Srinagar.
Though officially Sonia Gandhi will be inaugurating Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust in Jammu but she is expected to take assessment of more important and broader issues both within the NC-Congress coalition as also some problems which have been ailing the party in the state for quite some time.It is in this context her visit to state assumes significance.
Apart from interacting with some senior leaders of the party who matter, Sonia will also hold meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and discuss with him about the functioning of coaloition government, of which her party is major ally.
Sonia shall arrive in Jammu at 10.15 am and will inaugurate the Gujjar charitable trust around 11.00 am.Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place besides finalising itinerary for the function she has to attend. Earlier, Sonia Gandhi postponed her visit to Srinagar for which a host of reasons are being attributed.However, she is expected to visit summer capital by June end or in July.
Even as most of the Congress leaders based in Jammu have already arrived, due to bad weather, some of them , icluding the Deputy Chief Minister Tara chand could not reach Jammu today as all the three flights from Srinagar got cancelled due to bad weather.It remains to be seen what new announcements UPA chairperson is going to make during her speech in the function.
