| Sakina inaugurates boy's hostel for Pahari students | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT ANANTNAG, May 29: Minister for social welfare Sakina Itoo today inaugurated the boy's hostel for Pahari speaking students at Anantnag, a cherished demand of the pahari community of the district. The hostel will accommodate 50 students of 6th to 12th standard and will be provided with free of cost boarding lodging and other facilities. Despite a rainy day large number of people participated in the inaugural function. Speaking at the function, the Minister reiterated that the NC-congress coalition government was committed to ensure the upliftment of all socially backward sections of the State, Including the Pahari community. This is the third hostel in last one and a half year that has been provided to the students belonging to socially backward communities of the state and similar hostels will be set up at Baramulla and Kulgam soon, Itoo said. Sje said that educating socially backward classes is vital for their socio-economic development the coalition government has taken various important welfare measures for achieving these goals and making available better facilities to the students. The hostel, Itoo said, would provide them all such facilities required for enabling them to develop into better citizens and achieve their goals in future. The Minister urged the people of the community to ensure that their children will pursue studies with devotion and determination and bring laurels to the state. The Minister said that more than one lakh and twenty thousand Pahari and Gujjar students have been brought under the ambit of scholarships to provide financial assistance besides to boost their morale to see them realise their dreams and scholarship worth of Rs. 10 crore have been provided to the pahari and other socially backward students in last one year. MLC Altaf Ahmad, Syed Mushtaq Ahmad, Kanwar Rashpal Singh also spoke on the occasion.
