Afzal clemency: BJP hits out at Pak
10/17/2006 5:32:48 PM

NEW DELHI: The opposition BJP on Tuesday demanded the government immediately summon Pakistan High Commissioner and warn him about snapping diplomatic ties with his country in the wake of Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri's remarks on Parliament attack convict Mohd Afzal.

"This is the height of interference in India's internal matters. The government should immediately summon the High Commissioner and tell him that New Delhi would review its diplomatic ties with Pakistan after Kasuri's remarks on Afzal," BJP chief Rajnath Singh said.

Singh, who maintained that India should snap diplomatic ties with Pakistan, said the government should also hold discussions with the opposition parties over Kasuri's comments reportedly seeking clemency for Afzal.

"Pakistan should be given a week or ten days to respond and if the response is not satisfactory India should snap diplomatic ties with that country," he added.
