| Provide immediate relief to drought hit farmers, NBP to Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 29: The all India president of National Bahujan Party (NBP) K.K.Manhotra has urged upon the state government to provide immediate relief to the drought hit farmers who are at the verge of starvation as they have lost three successive crops due to drought.
Addressing a press conference here Manhotra said beside relief government should also provide free ration to the farmers. He also strongly demanded that caste base census should be done so that real picture of the number of weaker sections should be emerged in the country. He does not think anything wrong in conducting caste base census.
Expressing satisfaction over appointment of vice-Chairman of other backward classes (OBC) Board, NBP President stressed on the need of completely constituting the board by appointing members and releasing adequate funds. "More than four months have already been passed but no fund has been allotted to the OBC so far neither members have been appointed", he observed.
He reiterated his demand that 27 per cent reservation should be given to OBCs in the state on the pattern of the other states of the country.
NBP president also demanded that a local person should be appointed as Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu. "Aspirations of the people of Jammu should be taken into consideration while appointing first Vice Chancellor of Central University", he said that name of one of the local academician Prof Santokh Ram was already in the panel so there was no reason to deny him the same post.
NBP president also demanded that elections of the local bodies and panchayats should be held as early as possible as there was no reason to delay these elections.
