| Army organises workshop on trauma care system | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT UDHAMPUR, May 29: A two-day Continued Medical Education (CME) Programme and workshop on 'Advanced Trauma Life Support' (ATLS) was inaugurated today by Lt Gen Jasbir Singh, Chief of Staff, Headquarters Northern Command at the NSOI at Udhampur. The CME & workshop is being organised by the Command Hospital (Northern Command) under the patronage of headquarters Northern Command and its medical branch and is being attended by more than 150 delegates detailed from all over Northern Command. Distinguishing the academic event as an important milestone in caring for the brave soldiers Lt Gen Jasbir Singh, in his inaugural address, conveyed that the primary aim of hosting of the CME is to train young medical officers, nursing officers and the paramedics about the organised trauma care system called Advanced Trauma Life Support that is the demand of the day in view of the rapidly changing scenario in the field of medicine. He further stated that this CME will become the cornerstone of developing and sharing newer strategies on Trauma Management in our Armed Forces that will go a long way in sharpening skills of the grass root level workers who take care of our brave soldiers guarding our frontiers. Maj Gen SK Nema, the MG (Med) informed the audience that Trauma continues to be the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in the younger, more active age group, killing more patients than cancer, heart disease, and stroke combined. Maj Gen Harinder Singh, Commandant of the Command Hospital, Udhampur, in his welcome address, brought to notice that the non-enemy action injuries to our troops due to accidents, unfortunately, far outweighed the injuries sustained due to enemy action.
