EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 29: Jammu district clinched both under-14 and under-17 titles in the two-day inter-district divisional level football tournament which was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) as part of its annual calendar of activities at GGM Science College ground, here today. In the under-14 final, Jammu boys trounced district Poonch 6-0 in a one-sided contest. Ishan Gupta was star striker who scored three goals while Atul Mehra, Vibshan and Raghav Gupta added one goal each to make it a big win. Later, in the under-17 final, again district Poonch lost to Jammu by three goals to nil. Sunil, Vineet and Sachin Kundal were the scorers from winners Jammu district. Earlier, in the under-17 semi-finals, Jammu blanked district Kathua 5-0. Parul, Gulshan, Dishal, Rekhi Mehra and Vaneet Rawat contributed one goal each. In the second semi-final, played in the morning session, district Poonch downed their counterparts from Kishtwar 4-0 to enter the final.In the final and prize distribution function, Deputy Director DYSS, Madan Lal was chief guest who gave away winners and runners-up trophies.Today's finals and semi-finals were officiated by R C Vaid, Bharat Bhushan, Mohinder, Gagan Kumar, Harivender Kour, Rohit, Kushay Kumar and Ajay Sharma of the DYSS. Meanwhile, the selection committee members also short listed the names in both under-14 and under-17 categories for the forthcoming inter-division state level competition.
