| Don't become victims of vote bank politics: CM | | We too have Gujjar connection, says Farooq, Omar | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 29: The inauguration ceremony of the Gurjar Centre for Culture and Heritage witnessed junior and senior Abdullah exhibiting pride in having some connections with the Gujjar community. If Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had a word of caution on the divided leadership of the tribe, Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah called for their self awakening. "Main Bhi Aadha Gujjar Hoon (I am Half Gujjar……", Dr Abdullah said in his typical style indicating his mother late Begum Sheikh Abdullah belonged to this community. ST satus was given to this community by the Centre to take them out of backwardness and end their miseries but the community still lags behind in the field of education", he said. Commending the efoorts of Msud Choudhar, chairman of the Trust, the former Chief Minister called for self awakening among the community members."Jab Tak Khud Nahi Jagogey , Bedaar Hongey Allah Bhi Madad Nahi Karega (even God will not help if community doesn't increase its awareness)", he said calling for assertive role to fight for their rights. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he too had some Gujjar blood running in his veins and had concern over the pain of miseries and hardships of the community. "They have the complaints of not having share in power centres though governments have tried to give them representation everywhere………but lack of education has made them deprived in every field", Omar Said adding that his government had decided to open all mobile schools meant for them in difficult areas of their habitation. These schools were closed due to militancy during last over 20 years. Mincing no words, Omar cautioned them that they would not be able to accrue much gains from any quarter if their unless their community remained united. " No community in the world can prosper having multiple and divided leaderships …….I request you to remain united instead of divided in groups……….weak and ailing fingers can do nothing and only a strong fist can do wonders", Chief Minister said while addressing the huge gathering of the community. "Main Aap Logon Sey request Karta Hoon Ki Aap Vote Bank Politics Ka Shikar Na Ho Jao (I request you not to become victims of vote bank politics", Omar Abdullah made an appeal, loaded apparanetly with political connotations. Complimenting Trust for Heritage Centre he said its work should not remain confined rather should be utilized for research in different fields for betterment of students.
