EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 1: Samooh Theatre conducted a children ‘Theater-in-Education’ workshop at Maharaja Suraj Mal Institute of Education and Research, Rangpur in RS Pura on “The World Tobacco Day. A children play “Akhir Kab Tak” written and directed by Ravinder Sharma was staged involving the students of the host school. The play depicts the harm of smoking and chewing tobacco which ultimately takes the precious life of young and the old as well whosoever are addicted. Besides, a Punjabi play ‘Toa’ written by Jatinder Brar and based on the short story of Krishan Chander, also prepared in this month-long workshop which highlights the plights of down trodden section of the society. The play revolves around a man who, while travelling rural areas get lost in reverie and suddenly plunges into a deep pit. Since to come out of that pit was not possible for him, he was in agony and raised voice to get out of it. In the process he comes across various people from different fields i.e the so called intellectuals, hypocrites ‘Sadhus’ and the leaders as well. Eventually, all the hopes the victim gets shattered in lieu of verbal sympathy by different men at the superficial level in the climax seen Suttar dhar (narrator) comes to the question before the audience that who will save the victim from the pit then a children raises his hand and tells that he will save him and he get the man out from the pit with the help of other children. It was a symbolic satire on those who are at the helm of affairs and their callous attitude towards downtrodden. The children who participated in the workshop were Jasmeet Kour, Manisha Chib, Manisha Bhagat, Reema Choudhary, Neho Choudhary Jasmeet Kour, Arti Chib, Gurdeep Kour, Sonali Choudhary, Radha Chid, Bharti Choudhary, Neha Devi, Manisha Chib, Sneha Chib, Diksha Choudhary, Rubia Choudhary, Kajal Choudhary, Aman Singh, Rammu Choudhary, Abinash Choudhary, Jagdeep Singh, Rajan Choudhary, Aryan Sharma, Sukhvinder, Vikram Chib, Balvir Singh, Deepak Choudhary, Chandan, Nitish Rohit, Sachin, Lukhvinder, Vishal and Ajay. In the valedictory function of the workshop, the participants were presented the medals by the senior Teacher of the School Ashok Kumar.
