JJSF terms fee hike as 'anti-student' step
6/1/2010 11:17:04 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, June 1: Jammu Joint Students' Federation (JJSF) has criticised the Jammu University authorities for charging "exorbitant" fee from college students without following any norms, and described that it is "anti-student" step.
Addressing media persons here, state vice president, JJSF Partap Singh Jamwal stated that said that there are some colleges affiliated to Jammu University which are receiving lot of money from student by adopting "illegal means".
"Recently a fresh incident happened at MIET where the college authorities charged money from the students illegally. The college authorities received admission fees from the students according to fee structure but after one and half month the college authorities asked the students to pay Rs 10,000 citing notification from university," Jamwal said.
The JJSF leader said, "There was no such notification in any other college and when parents of students of college wanted to see notification and wanted the receipt of money which they had paid to the college, the authorities failed to show the notification as well as were not able to give the receipt."
He further alleged, "JJSF had disclosed the names of B.Ed colleges which have indulged in malpractices. But the JU authorities did not take any action against these colleges. It is clear that Director Development Colleges and Vice Chanc-ellor of JU were involved in this corruption."
Meanwhile, he also said that some days before JU gave a notification. Accord-ing to this notification for engineering students the supplementary system in exams has been totally withdrawn. "The Engineering students are not ready to accept this notification," he warned.
He demanded an enquiry from Chancellor of JU and state government against such colleges which are allegedly making educational institution a business of earning money and also demanded to remove this supplementary notification as soon as possible.
