| BJYM submits memorandum to Governor | | 'Imposition of tax on langars' | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 1: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) led by Munish Sharma president of BJYM met Pawan Kotwal, Divisional Comm-issioner, Jammu and submitted memorandum addre-ssed to Governor demanding withdrawal of "Jazia" tax on each langars at Amarnath Yatra camps. The members of the deputation apprised Divisional Commissioner about the sanctity and religious importance of langars as these langars are being organized on voluntary basis to provide free facilities to the pilgrims, so that the pilgrims have smooth pilgrimage. They also apprised the Divisional Commissioner that the service of cleaning the entire place where the langars are organized is done by the organizers themselves. Therefore there is no need to charge any kind of sanitation fee as is being projected by the government agencies. They also submitted to the Governor that sanitation facilities for the pilgrims are to be provided by the government as is being done in case of Haj pilgrims at Haj Houses in Jammu and Srinagar. Through the Memora-ndum submitted to the Governor N N Vohra, who is also Head of the Shri
Amarnath Shrine Board, the BJYM leaders urged the state government not to create any confusion by imposing a license fee/security of Rs 25,000 on the organizers of langars. "Non-refundable component of Rs 15000 of this fee is indicative of negative and biased attitude towards Shri Amarnath Yatra and Hindu pilgrims. It is the only instance in the whole country where the people who provide services to the yatris free of cost to make yatra possible are burdened with a fee/charge," they alleged. They further insisted that instead of providing proper facilities for the smooth and comfortable yatra for pilgrims, the imposition of this 'Jazia' has given a severe blow to the religious sentiments of not only the whole Hindu community but also tarnished the secular fabric of the society. The delegation fervently requested the Divisional Commissioner to convey to the Governor the strong feelings of the entire society of the state against this "black step" of the government. The Divisional Commis-sioner assured them that he would apprise the Governor in detail the sentiments of the delegation and would also talk to Shri amarnath Shrine Board.
