| J&K peace process under threat | | LeT supremo for 'total liberation' of Kashmiri people | | B L KAK NEW DELHI, OCT. 17: In a significant turn of events, taped messages from the chief of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Hafiz Mohammed Saeed, have, under utmost secrecy, reached several pockets on this side of the Indo-Pakistan border. The LeT supremo's messages are loaded with anti-India accent. The Lashkar-e-Toiba, which, according to the government of India, has pockets of influence in a number of areas in Jammu and Kashmir, has established, beyond doubt, that it can neither be ignored nor marginalised. Pakistan government has, under the pressure from the international community, particularly the USA, imposed restrictions on militant Islamist outfits in recent times. But the LeT continues to call the shots. The government of India, according to authoritative sources, had reasons to call for a high alert not only in select areas or States but also in those towns and villages in the country that were not openly lashed by violent winds of terorism. The 'high alert' call, sources said, also was necessitated by the Murdike-based Markaz-ul-Dawa-ul-Arshad, the headquarters of the dreaded terrorist organisation, Lashkar-e-Toiba. It has issued a directive to the jihadis to intensify the "war for the toal freedom of Kashmiri people and establishment of one religion" in Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, the call given by Hafiz Mohammed Saeed is also meant for areas beyond Jammu and Kashmir, in India and elsewhere in the world. Taped message from the LeT supremo has pronounced: "We want one world. We want one religon--that is, Islam. Even if that means blood must flow in the valleys and mountains of Kashmir, Bosania, Chechneya, wherever, all the time". Saeed's message also proclaimed: "It requires to be conveyed to all of you matter-of-factlythat all civilisations must clash until Islam is accepted everywhere". Meanwhile, with the formation of a new batch of border action teams across the Line of Control (LoC), government sleuths experct "some increase" in infiltration in the coming days and weeks. Pakistan-based border action teams have already been found useful in pulling the Indian guards to the opposite direction as militants use 'safe coridors' close to the Indian posts to cross the border. Reports from across the LoC also confirm that too many interest groups--from the power brokers in Islamabad to jihadi leaders and civil-military officers who have enjoyed access to unaudited funds--have a direct stake in the 'industry of violence'. They can take a lull in business for some time but few seem ready to wind it up. Even as Pakistan President, Gen. ParvezMusharraf, has, once again, demonstrated his plans against the jihadi organisations in his country, movement of J&K-bound militants and infiltrators has not remained a secret, particularly after the revival of activity along the Muzaffarabad-Mansehra road in Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK). A highly-placed Indian security official told EARLY TIMES that the government of India had been informed about the movement of groups of militants closer to the LoC again. Major camps such as Harkat-ul-Mujahideen's Abdali camp at Las Danna, Bagh, the launching depots in the Chhamb area across Jammu sector are active again. Jihadis have been found active at Karela and other hilltops in the Nakial region of Khuiratta, bordering Jammu. It has been officially pointed out that there is frequent infiltration, though on a minor scale, from Khuiratta into Jammu sector since last April. Bagh across Poonch sector in Jammu region and Lipa valley across Uri in Kashmir have become quite important for the ones associated with the task of pushing infiltrators and militants into Jammu and Kashmir. The groups that cross the LoC in these sectors were launched from a facility at Gojra in Muzaffarabad sector. =====================
