| Make Kasheer Channel more local oriented: CM to Prasar Bharti | | Azad for improvement in DD coverage, production of programmes | | Srinagar, October 17 - Stressing the need for extending Doordarshan coverage in the state and increasing its viewership percentage by launching network of low power (LPT) and high power transmission stations (HPT) and producing high quality popular programmes, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said that steps need to be taken to bring 100 percent viewership under the ambit of Doordarshan. Addressing a high level officers of Prasar Bharti at a meeting here Tuesday, Chief Minister said that keeping in view the topography and hilly terrains a well knit transmission systems need to be installed throughout the state to ensure coverage at sub-division, tehsil, block, Niabat and village levels. He asked Prasar Bharti Officers to immediately take steps for installing more LPTs in Ladakh, Udhampur, Doda, Kupwara, Baramulla and other areas to ensure beaming of Doordarshan in all such areas hitherto not covered under its signals. The team of Prasar Bharti Officers led by Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Brijeshwar Singh included Director General Doordarshan Mr. L. D. Mandloi, Engineer-in-Chief AIR Mr. A. S. Goin, Chief Engineer North Zone Doordarshan Dr. H. O. Srivastava, DDG NR T. Dolkar, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Anil Goswami, Director Doordarshan Kashmir Mrs. Shahzadi Simon, Director Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Mr. G.H. Zia, Director Radio Kashmir Jammu Mrs.T. Angmo, Director FM Mr. Bashir Asif, News Editor Doordarshan Mr. M.K. Wangroo and officers from Information Department participated in the meeting. Mr Azad underscored the importance of launching viewers specified policy by Prasar Bharti and focus attention on strengthening Radio and Doordarshan coverage in Jammu and Kashmir State. He said urgent attention is needed for making Kasheer Channel more local oriented and fixing 75 percent production of programmes for Jammu Kashmir locals residing in the state and 25 percent for the migrants of Jammu and Kashmir and others. He said this would enable to showcase cultural richness and heritageous glory of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and also nurture the widely available local talent adding new avenues of job opportunities would also get opened by the steps. Chief Minister said that in order to present real development scenario prevailing in the state and positive face of progress and growth taking place through nook and corners of the state, special programmes and news bulletins need to be produced and telecast through Doordarshan and Kasheer Channels and in this connection he asked the Doordarshan and state Department of Information and Public Relations to jointly venture and collaborate in producing, broadcasting and telecasting such educative, informative and social programmes which the team of Prasar Bharti also supported saying that it would be a healthy step. Prasar Bharti authorities assured the Chief Minister that due care for strengthening and improving programmes of Doordarshan and Radio will be taken in the 11th plan earmarking installation of HPTs, LPTs and VLPTs throughout the state saying that construction of two HPTs at Banihal and Patnitop are under active consideration of Prasar Bharti. Chief Minister asked the Prasar Bharti authorities to also look feasibilities of installing 3rd HPT tower in the mountainous range of Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah and Udhampur so that all areas from Poonch to Doda and Kathua to Kupwara are covered under Doordarshan signals. The team would also have aerial survey of the areas in Jammu and Kashmir during next two days and fined out feasibilities and locations for installing five more LPTs being installed shortly in the state.
