| NSF calls for independent inquiry | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 5: Rejecting the probe ordered by the government in alleged fire extinguishers purchase scam, National Secular forum (NSF) today demanded that an independent inquiry be initiated to expose the "black sheep" in the Education Department. Interacting with media persons here, Vikas Sharma, NSF president questioned the credibility of the enquiry ordered in connection with alleged procurement of fire extinguishers on high rates maintaining that as the enquiry is being conducted by the Directorate of School Education itself which could not be justified. He demanded that Government either give the task of enquiry to State Vigilance Organization or Crime Branch or some independent body so that those responsible for the fraud be made accountable. He apprehended that those who have been assigned the task of enquiry would never implicit the guilty officers as they are on the same board. Sunny Babber, president Jammu unit NSF, also demanded thorough inquiry into the whole episode as over 3000 fire extinguishers worth over Rs 65 lakh have been purchased in Jammu district only whereas, the figure stands at Rs 7 crore across the province which drops enough of hint that lakhs of rupees have been swindled in this process. "We urge the Chief Minister to look into the matter and order an impartial inquiry as the case is of financial embezzlement worth crores of rupees," demanded the NSF leaders. They further vowed that NSF would not accept "dilly dallying tactics" of the education department in the matter.
