| Legal metrology deptt books violators | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 5: Legal Metrology department has taken note of various advertisements of branded products which contravene the provisions of Weights and measures Act as these advertisements tend to mislead & hoodwink the Consumers. In the instant case, Legal Metrology Department took serous view of an advertisement campaign of Mustard Oil brand "P" Mark published in various leading newspapers by M/S Devi Dass Gopal Krishan, Moga, Punjab. In this sale promotional activity, the company tried to attract the Consumers by way of displaying the package of Tide Washing soap free of cost worth Rs.10 alongwith purchase of 5 liter Mustard oil, but net contents of washing powder were not known. This amounts to violation of provisions of section 39 (6) of Standard Act, where in, it is mandatory for any advertisement to show the net contents alongwith the price of package, so that consumer can co-relate the actual benefit to him. Inspector, Legal Metrology, Jammu (u) served notice to the management to collate all the evidences, the cutting of the advertisement was collected and after scrutiny, the management was held responsible for the omission. Offence was compounded and fine of Rs.5,000 was recovered from the company. The directions were also issued to the Company for necessary rectification in the said advertisement. |
