‘World Environment Day’ celebrated

JAMMU, June 5: G L S Public School, Jammu today celebrated the World Environment Day.
On the occasion, Drawing Competition (Theme Save Environment), Essay Writing Competition (theme Global Warming, Causes and Effects) were organised.
Some seeds were also planted and an environment “Awareness Rally” to commemorate this day was also organised.
It was informed that the school purchased 350 plants out of which 250 plants were distributed among the students, and rest 100 distributed free of cost during the Rally, along with the informational/ educative Pamphlets.
The school also sent a letter to the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, signed by all the staff members and students, appealing those immediate remedial actions should be initiated at the National Level for reforestation to encounter the ever growing problem of pollution, global warming and harmful effects associated with it.
The copy of the same letter, along with suggestions will be sent to the office of United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP).
In Kathua Environment Day was also celebrated today in the campus of Vivekananda College of education. The chief organiser of the programme was Tagore House of the college. Chairman of the college Dr. Sudarshan Kumar Gupta was the Chief Guest and programme started with the devotional song, sung.
The students delivered speeches on the Importance of “Environment for mankind and its protection”. Beside there was also an in house tree competition on slogan writing and black board writing competition.
The winners of the competition were Vandana from Tagore House Ist prize Rajinder Kour from Shivali House 2nd Prize Sunil from Keshav House and Happy from Ambedhar House.
In the event of black board writing Richa Chand from Gobind house secured 1st prize Khaiali from Ambedhar house secured 2nd prize Rajinder Kour from Shivaji House and Rinku from Gobind house secured third prize.
The prize to the winners were distributed by the chief guest.
