| JU retains AIVC T20 trophy | | Host KU suffers 6-wkt loss in the hands of JU | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 5: University of Jammu (JU) today retained the All India Vice-Chancellors Twenty 20 Cricket trophy beating the hosts, University of Kashmir (KU) by six wickets in an interesting final played here. Raj Kumar proved to be a force to reckon with as he spoiled the KU dream of winning the title with his match winning half century. It was this all rounder who kept the scoreboard moving with his sensitive innings, especially at the crucial stages when JU were in need of 17 runs off 15 balls. Raj Kumar, who is JU cricket coach, remained unbeaten after overhauling the opponent total with a splendid boundary sparking three deliveries of the final 20th over. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, KU set a target of 130 runs for the loss of nine wickets, which, in reply, JU chased in 19.3 overs for the loss of six wickets. Shahnawaz was top scorer with 38 runs while Lateef contributed 31. From JU, Raj Kumar and Rajesh clinched three wickets each while Vishal took one. In reply, JU reached the required target for the loss of four wickets sparing three balls of the last over. Raj Kumar made unbeaten 53 runs, followed by Rajesh and Vishal, who contributed 16 and 14 runs respectively. Lateef, Shamiulla and Sajjad bagged one wicket each for KU. For his superb innings, Raj Kumar bagged man of the match trophy, which was second in a row. He was also given away man of the series title. Best batsman trophy went to Samiullah while best bowler title was bagged by Latif of Kashmir University.
