| Danish Pathania bags under-19 title in state chess | | |
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 5: Young Danish Pathania excelled in all three age groups of under-19, under-17 and under-15 securing first place in the two day State under-19 Chess Championship underway at Nek Hotel, here today. The competition which held simultaneously for all the three age categories witnessed Danish, who is otherwise an under-15 boy, perform exceptionally well against his seniors. In under-19 category, second place went to Rohit Bhardwaj while Rajat Bhardwarj remained third. Pranav Sharma, Chetan Gandotra and Sarvesh Langar bagged fourth, fifth and sixth position respectively. Similarly, in under-17 group, Rajat Bhardwarj was second and Pranav Sharma finished third. Abhinav Chanda (4th), Sarvesh Langer (5th) and Suhas Dhar (6th) were other position holders. In under-15 age category, again Danish was winner and Abhishek Gupta and Manik secured second and third place respectively. Earlier, the championship was declared open by president of the Association, Atul Gupta in the presence of general secretary, Baldev Raj and special guest, Raj Chowdhary. Meanwhile, the competition in girls section and boys under-seven and under-nine shall take place tomorrow. In all, 70 boys and girls turned up for the competition in five different age groups.
