6/5/2010 11:25:27 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 5: Jammu State Morcha (JSM)office bearers in a meeting under the Prof. Virender Gupta with members H B Khajuria, Capt. Anil Gour, Dig Vijay Singh, Chandra Uday Sharma, Virender Magotra, Divender Singh Jamwal, Balvinder Singh and Surjeet Singh attending. Members discussed in detail the report of the survey conducted by Robert Bradnock a scholar from London's Kings College. It was agreed by all that this report has brought out truth about prevailing ground situation amongst people of Jammu & Kashmir & is a big setback to Pakistan and those who consider Pakistan as a party in J&K dispute. The Study also shows that people of J&K are unevenly divided on issues concerning J&K imbroglio & therefore the solutions to this problems is not to be sought only from Kashmiri leaders but from people of all three regions of state. Survey indicates that opinion of people of Jammu region and that of Kashmir region is not only divided but opposite to each other showing thereby that each region has different political aspirations which are contradictory to each other. Except for Jammu District where 1% of the population favoured Independence of J&K State no body in other districts of Jammu region, including the Muslim majority districts which are hilly and or near LoC favoured independence. Whereas in Kashmir region preference for independence is between 75% and 95%. In Ladakh region it is nearly 25%.
Various studies conducted earlier have also indicated the similar trends in the three regions on the issues. Therefore, it is imperative on the part of Government of India to not apply the same remedy- medicine or yardstick on the people of all the regions of Jammu & Kashmir in solving this issue. Survey also shows that only 2% of the population of J&K that too confined to Srinagar and Badgam districts favour joining Pakistan. As such Pakistan should be asked to wash its hand from J&K. It is an internal matter of India and is to be settled by the Government of India and people of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan should worry about the people of Jammu and Kashmir on its side, the 44% population of which aspire for independence from Pakistan. India too has to satisfy the people of J& K, Kashmir in particularly where 75%- 95% of the population want Independence, whereas 43% of the people in whole J&K want independence. However, there is no taker for joint sovereignty, Self Rule or Greater Autonomy. The majority of the population 58% of J&K and of PoK has supported converting LoC into permanent border. The Government of India and that of Pakistan have to work under the parameters defined by survey, which look to be quite rational to resolve the J&K issue once for all.
