| If Guru is hanged militancy would peak: Baig | | |
Jammu,October 17 : Joining chorus with National Conference Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah, PDP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig said on Tuesday if Mohd Afzal Guru is hanged militancy in Kashmir valley would go up.
Talking to reporters after attending special session with intellectuals drawn fron various streams on self-rule here in Jammu, Baig said issue of Mohd Afzal Gurus hanging has been made a political issue and everyone opposing hanging has joined hands.
He said the mood in the Kashmir valley is against hanging Afzal Guru.If he is hanged situation will go out of hands as more youth will join ranks of militants after Pakistani sympathisers would emotionally exploit them to take up guns.
On the question of self-rule he said, PDP was ready to discuss the issue at every forum before evolving consensus on their formula.
Advocating the need for similiar kind of self-rule on the other side of the line of control in POK Baig said, if we are demanding self-rule from our country people in POK have the same right and Pakistani President who is paroting self-rule should see to it that his own people should also get it.
He said, PDP would come up with a working paper on the idea of self rule within one month time ater which a detailed draft of the proposal would be brough out. Reacting on the question of contradiction within the coalition partners he said this doesenot worry him.
Prime Minister DrManmohan Singh has assured that the ideas of self-rule and greater autonomy would be discussed during the round table conference. |
